Mentorship Mess

This week in ISM, I navigated changing conditions regarding mentors as Covid cases have been rising. With UT Southwestern, where I was previously supposed to perform my mentorship, they closed down the facilities to students, which complicates my process. Especially with my topic of pediatrics, it may be difficult to find someone who will allow for mentorship when Covid rates are so high. However, Coach Goff used this as a teaching opportunity to show us that when there are circumstances outside our control, we can't do anything about it other than to regulate our attitudes and actions towards the situation. Although a traditional mentorship may not be possible at the moment, other options could be considered, such as a virtual one. This past week has dealt with that and how this may change what a mentor looks for me. Although mentors could be different this year, it is important to not undermine the connections that I am making with professionals and that I shouldn't let these go to waste. Next week, I’ll continue to think about and work through what a mentorship will look like for me. I also want to start to think about the upcoming speech and how to structure it as last time my time management with it wasn't the best. Even with factors beyond my control, it is important for me to keep my head held high.
