Hearing Out my Classmates

A lot of this week in Ism consisted of me listening to the research speeches done by my classmates. During this time, I had to evaluate the effectiveness of their speeches which helped me learn a lot. By grading others' speeches, I now know what to look for in my own presentation and specific ways to self-evaluate my presentation to figure out what is wrong with my presentation. When I was listening to my classmates present, I was able to see firsthand the mistakes people are making and it made me think about whether I was making those mistakes as well. Specific lessons I learned from listening to others’ presentations were to make sure to project my voice when presenting, make eye contact with the audience frequently, include many pictures on the slides with little words, and create an engaging hook. Having an eye-catching hook is important to have the audience’s full attention. I am thankful for the opportunity I had to listen to other research presentations because it opened my eyes to my own mistakes I made. The other parts of the week were focused on completing original work. Original work is due in the middle of December and it is a long-term project that I need to start doing daily. My next priority is to focus solely on original work and create the best possible version of my original work.
